Tumescent technique
The tumescent technique is a method that involves injection of local anesthesia to a large volume of subcutaneous fat and thus permits liposuction totally by local anesthesia. The tumescent technique eliminates the need for general anesthesia. The tumescent technique for liposuction not only provides local anesthesia, but also constricts capillaries and prevents surgical blood loss and provides fluid to the body by subcutaneous injection so that no IV fluids are needed.

The Super wet technique
The super wet technique requires the injection of a volume of dilute local anesthesia that is less than half the volume used for the tumescent technique and hence this technique can be done only under general anaesthesia.
